DH2005 Deer Hunting Tournament 09/18/05 Comments on the use of Cheats in tournaments!

A cheat program for DH2005 has surfaced recently
that can be used to find and save trophies both online and offline.
This creates a dilemma for those of us who host or participate
in tournaments. It should go without saying that THE USE OF CHEATS
IN OUR TOURNAMENT IS TOTALLY PROHIBITED. Anyone caught cheating
in the tournament WILL BE BANNED PERMANENTLY FROM PARTICIPATION.
Every effort will be made to detect any cheating and the appropriate
action will be taken if a cheater is found.
I will not go into a lengthy dissertation on the wrongness of cheating, as you all know these principles as well as I do. I will only say that those who participate in this tournament spend many hours and much effort to find and take their trophies each week. To enter trophies that have been obtained by cheating robs them of their proper credit for their efforts. That said, I do not believe that there has, to this point, been a problem within our tournament with cheating. I am personally appreciative that the cheat program was discovered by some of our tournament players as we now are aware that it is out there and that it could be used by someone who either has not considered the seriousness of its use in a tournament, or even perhaps by someone who just doesn’t care. Either way we now know that cheating is possible. I have spoken with the members of the =OTB= and I can assure you that none of our members have or would ever use a cheat in a tournament. I have also spoken with members of the =TBH= group and have been assured that the same goes for them. At this point all I can say is lets have fun, play fair, and may the best hunter win! <:-)> One further note on game cheats in general. Most of what are commonly called “cheats” are actually debugging aids placed in the game by the programmers. They enable the programmers to more easily find problems and evaluate how the game is functioning. To avoid creating problems, such as the one we are discussing with tournaments, they generally have limitations built in. The inability to be used on-line or the inability to claim trophies when being used are examples of this. “Cheats” of this kind, in my opinion, have their place as they also enable players to better understand how the game works, etc. Personally I see no problem with their use off line for this purpose. To use them just to play the game is, in a word, just boring. To use cheats online, however, creates a problem for others who you are playing with, and therefore I find it to be at best a nuisance. To use them on a tournament, is as stated above, just plain wrong. If you managed to read to this point, Bless You. <:-)>
